Circle of the Sun...
Richard's second CD continues the good-time feel of his debut with pop-and-folk flavored originals like "Ten Little Fingers," "New Boo Boo" and "Magic Shoes," alongside the rock 'n' roll of "Brain Freeze" and a horn-powered cover of the 1962 R&B hit "Barefootin'." Featuring vocals turns by daughters Sophie ("Fais Do Do") and Michele ("Crash"), this 16-song set also pays homage to one of Richard's favorite mod bands, 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Small Faces. Richard's cover of the group's "Up The Wooden Hills To Bedforshire," features Ian McLagan of The Small Faces/Faces on keyboards. The band's late bass player Ronnie Lane is also celebrated with a plaintive cover of his song "The Poacher." Folk gems like "Little Blue Top," "Turn Turn Turn" and the title track balance out the pop and rock 'n' roll tunes that Richard seamlessly delivers with bright vocals and nimble-fingered playing. Eclectic, certainly. Good listening? You bet.
Richard Younger's first CD for kids is mighty parent friendly, what with instantly hummable melodies and top-flight guitar playing. Think Donovan meets Buddy Holly distilled through an over-caffeinated Burl Ives and you might have some idea of the easy good-time vibe that permeates these tracks.
Saddle up! This New York songwriter's album of country/rock was hailed as "outstanding" by Billboard when it was released on vinyl in 1989. Now with six extra tracks, fans of country-tinged rock 'n' roll are sure to want to take it for a ride.
